2006 Tee it Up to Celebrate Life was a Hole in One!

Golfers Hit Straight and True: Another Sold-Out Tournament

The third Tee it Up to Celebrate Life, held on June 26, 2006, was a real hole-in-one in every way.  The 2006 event was marked by a new venue, the gorgeously renovated Sonoma Golf Club, a huge increase in attendance, 144 spirited players, and record funds raised.

Tee It Up 2006

Thirty-six foursomes “scrambled” (unlike cooking eggs,  in golf this means everyone in the foursome hits the drive, then they choose the best shot and each player hits from that position) for eighteen holes on this sunny, warm and perfectly calm golf day.  The course, according to many, was a “real treat to play on” and in “phenomenal condition”.    Prizes were awarded for the Men’s and Women’s Longest Drives, Closest to the Pin, Most Accurate Drive, and Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Low Net.  However no one took away the $20,000 hole-in-one prize.  Next year, perhaps?

After eighteen appetite-building holes, guests dined on mouthwatering hors d’oeuvres and a savory buffet dinner elegantly prepared and served by the Sonoma Mission Inn. Once refreshed and renourished, these spirited golfers and other supporters kept the excitement going for the live auction. Items up for bid included a vast selection of fine wines, restaurant gift certificates and golf packages as well as sports tickets and getaways to fabulous resort homes in Tahoe and Hungary. Truly, there was something for everybody.

We extend special thanks to all participants and volunteers and to our generous sponsors and donors who helped us raise 55% more funds than we did in 2005, for disbursal to our 2007 grantees. According to Rick Barbaria, Tee It Up To Celebrate Life Executive Committee member, “Everyone involved contributed to the tremendous success of Tee it Up to Celebrate Life 2006. We couldn’t have done it without all of our dedicated volunteers, and our enthusiastic golfers! It was a great day for all of us who support women and men living with breast cancer.”
