Rally to Celebrate Life 2006 |

A birthday bash, complete with balloons, cakes and candles, marked the 15th annual Rally to Celebrate Life fundraiser. The women’s round robin tennis tournament took place at the Marin Tennis Club and Dominican University, with over 200 guests in attendance.
This year, Rally was honored to include Jackson’s Hardware and Julie & Mitchell Kertzman as Presenting Sponsors. In addition, Title Sponsors Deutsche Bank Alex.Brown, Esurance, Inc., Kryzanowski Family Foundation and Wine, Women & Song combined with more than 150 Court Sponsors to generously contribute to the success of the event. The popular silent auction, made possible by donations from over 250 magnanimous businesses and individual donors, was the frosting on the cake for the day’s fundraising. Winners of the top tennis flight, Linda Roland and Candace Davenport, joined with local tennis pros Helle Viragh and Carrie Zarranondia, to dazzle the guests during the exhibition match at center court.
Following the exhibition, guests dined al fresco on a scrumptious luncheon catered by Elaine Bell, accompanied by fine wines donated by Gloria Ferrer Champagne Caves. While the coveted raffle prizes were awarded, everyone enjoyed a fashion show featuring the latest looks from Net Works and Link Works, modeled by breast cancer survivors Joan Collins, Veronica DeMartini, Teri Dowling, Laura Nethercutt, Yvonne Robinson, Sheila Rokeach and Janice Sunderland. Topping off the day’s events, Susan Zelinsky of Wine, Women, and Song, led the group in a rousing rendition of “Happy Birthday” as pretty pink cakes provided by Sweet Things and adorned with flaming sparklers, were paraded to each table. “Ooohs” and “ahhs” filled the air when guests opened their “birthday” present…a beautiful straw tote bag from Lantern Moon filled with fabulous gifts.
Rally continues to be a day of hope and inspiration to all who attend. The Rally Executive Committee is profoundly grateful to all those who help make the event a success. And to the 30 volunteers who work so hard during the year to make Rally such a memorable experience — hats off to you. You are the best!
