About Us

Alice TannerSandy Truex

Sandy Truex has been working with women with breast cancer as a nurse for years, but began to do it full time in 1998 when the Breast Program was created at the Marin Cancer Institute. While there, before retiring in 2005, she accompanied women from the time before the diagnosis was confirmed to the time treatment was completed.  She considers these years without a doubt the best years of her professional career, especially because of the rare and special privilege of being with women at such important times.  Knowing so many of the Stepping Out models and seeing their transformation, made volunteering at the fashion shows even more special.  It is the courage of so many women facing breast cancer that fuels her desire to continue to take part in their support.
