About Us

Alice TannerJanis Johnson

Janis Johnson was treated for breast cancer in 1996 and has always valued one of the benefits of the experience -- the networks of friendship and support. At the time, she was director of communications at Georgetown University Medical Center and used her knowledge as a patient and writer to better inform the public about health care issues. She also conducted journaling workshops for cancer patients and their families as a form of developing their own self-expression.

Upon moving to Marin County, Janis immediately joined To Celebrate Life Breast Cancer Foundation and its Communications Committee. She was a Stepping Out To Celebrate Life model in 2006 and served as the board’s liaison to the Stepping Out Executive Committee in 2007.

Janis owns Johnson Consulting in San Rafael, a strategic communications firm specializing in marketing/branding and fundraising communications for educational and healthcare institutions, other nonprofits and small businesses.
